John McGeehan is a second cousin of Private Bernard McGeehan of the 1st/8th Liverpool [Irish] King’s Regiment who was shot at dawn on the 2nd November 1916 for alleged desertion. By an Act of the British Parliament he was pardoned in November 2006 alongside the other 305 British, Irish and Commonwealth combatants who met the same dreadful fate.
John McGeehan, born in the Irish Republic and resident of Wales, is not a participating ‘member’ of Shot at Dawn Ireland, but is a fervent supporter of its aims and objectives. He asserts his right, as a family member, to participate in activities compatible with the restoration of his cousin's good name and honour.
He co-ordinates the activities of Shot at Dawn Wales and in such capacity has worked tirelessly with the Welsh media, academics, schools, politicians and other interested parties in propagating the cause of restoring honours of those Welsh combatants Shot at Dawn.
